They correctly guessed the picture was facing North East.

Heres tristians explanation...(also see picture)..

I picked up asymmetric snow melt round trees bases, asymmetric tree growth, including some tick / check effects in the youngest trees, plus some weak 'flagging' where northerlies had killed off some higher tree branches.
