Wetterling Axes.
The hand axe, is actually THE tool of the backwoodsman. Much more than the periodic woodsplitter of the campsite, the hand axe was often the only tool carried by hunters/trappers and voyageurs. An Axe, a good axe, can complete almost any cutting task… and then some. An Axe, a good axe, a balanced, SHARP,crafted Axe, is a delight to use and carry. The hand forged Axe’s are much lighter than the drop forged type and each Axe comes with a full grain leather head cover. To my way of thinking, everything, every 0Z you carry has to pay its way, and the weight that a good belt Axe adds is worth the effort. You will use a lot more energy in splitting firewood than you would carrying the Axe, and it can be used as a backup knife if required.
There are very few companys who make such tools, but Wetterlings is one of them. The Swedish company was started by Otto Wetterling in 1882 and is still run by the same family, producing hand forged Axe’s in Storvik, Sweden. Out from the heat and smoke of the original forges, comes each head, crafted by hand, no machined heads, made by hand.
Each too is made with 127yrs of skill and knowledge. We offer four, the Small Axe the Wildlife, the Small Hunter, Large Hunter, all belt axes. Handy, well balanced capable of field dressing, cutting, wood splitting and cleaving, the larger being more capable of the chopping tasks, the smaller good at smaller tasks, even whittling and carving wood. The slow hand forged steel is tempered to 59HRC, as hard as many a good knife. Handles are the brown heartwood of American Hickory.
I find them indispensable in the field, and when accompanied with a good belt knife you can complete any task of survival or comfort. MADE IN SWEDEN BY VERY SKILLED HANDS.
The Small Hunter is at home in the hunt camp. Great for splitting larger logs and cutting trees, you'll find it is indispensable and a joy to use and handle.
